Just one day after facing the Arizona Cardinals in a preseason game at Empower Field at Mile High on Saturday night, the Denver Broncos will be right back on the practice field on Sunday.
Practicing just one day after a game is not typical, but the Broncos have not had a typical preseason schedule. From Aug. 7 to Aug. 16, Denver had two joint practices and two preseason games, so coach Sean Payton opted to rest most of the team's starters against the Cardinals on Saturday.
Those starters will be back at practice on Sunday as the team prepares for a preseason finale on Aug. 23.
"Next week [this week] because of the two back-to-back joint practices, it kind of alters a little bit your schedule," Payton said last Thursday. "We'll get into a normal... We're practicing Sunday. When you think about it you say, 'You're practicing after a game?' Well, 40 guys didn't play in the game. They got work today, yesterday and were in and out, on and off.
"You'll see a practice Sunday, Monday they'll be off, Tuesday pads, Wednesday pads, Thursday pads. I don't want to hear any complaining. Friday, we'll fly to New Orleans and then get ready to get good work in with the Saints. Then we come back and have another Sunday practice, Monday, cut down comes, Tuesday, Wednesday. Fortunately, that feels like a long ways away because there's a lot we have to do prior to then."
After wrapping up preseason against the New Orleans Saints on Aug. 23, the Broncos will turn their attention toward finalizing a 53-man roster. We will track all of Denver's moves on Broncos Wire.
