Health officials said a listeria outbreak linked to prepared meals containing pasta includes 27 reported illnesses and six deaths, up from 20 illnesses and four deaths as of Sept. 25.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration issued updates on Thursday.
The CDC said that of the 13 people interviewed by state and local health officials, seven reported eating precooked meals, and four specifically reported eating chicken fettuccine alfredo. Ill people purchased these products from the refrigerated section at Walmart and Kroger, the CDC said.
Multiple items have been recalled due to concerns about a pasta ingredient made by Nate's Fine Foods.
