The Hernando Board of Aldermen voted to set the city's property tax millage rate at 35.7654 mills, a 5-mill reduction from the previous fiscal year.
The decision, made at the board's meeting Aug. 5, comes after a countywide property reassessment by the DeSoto County tax assessor's office, which increased the taxable value of many properties throughout the county, including Hernando.
While the reassessment increased the taxable value, the millage-rate reduction aims to mitigate the impact on residents' tax bills.
